Many years ago, I saw a skin care campaign aimed at young women and, in particular, at what “ideal” meant in the feminine psyche when relating to beauty. Heavy stuff for soap. I’m a guy and I like to think I’m smart enough to not tread where I cannot speak on personal experience — but it appeared the campaign was hitting the right notes. I did tear up a bit, after all. But I thought it could go further. I wanted it to be punkier. A little less precious. Beauty is more about confidence than anything else. And yes, I spoke to the target demographic to be sure I was still hitting those notes. I sing like a girl, by the way. And proud of it.
